Our story

We are on a mission to reduce food waste, boost fibre consumption, and keep your tastebuds happy with delicious, healthy, and filling snacks.

We first met through the Harper Adams Young Enterprise Start-Up programme. United by a shared passion for great food and protecting our planet, Riff was born.

Award-Winning Beginnings

What started as a university passion project quickly turned into something much bigger. We are incredibly proud to have won the Young Enterprise UK National Final, and we are now buzzing with excitement as we prepare to represent the UK at the European Finals!

From Surplus to Snack Bar

But before the awards, it all started with a surplus of bruised bananas in our university's community fridge. This local initiative collects unsold, perfectly edible food from supermarkets and makes it free for anyone to take. Seeing that bananas were consistently the most wasted item, we knew we had to intervene. We wanted to turn them into something genuinely healthy—not just another banana bread!

We set off with a simple idea: date and banana bars. But we quickly discovered that the humble banana held far more potential than we ever imagined.

Unrivalled Nutrition

By unlocking the natural fibre and nutritional power of bananas, we realised that with careful formulation, we could create a substantial snack bar with serious perks: 10g of fibre and 10g of protein. From there, we began rescuing other surplus and "wonky" ingredients, applying the same rigorous process of flavour-pairing and recipe development.

To stay true to our mission, our bars change with the seasons based on the surplus ingredients available. We hope you love them, and keep Riff-ing with us!
